Design Notes
This project explores the perceptual measurement of air quality, which is typically quantified through standardised Air Quality Index (AQI) data from official monitoring stations. However, these data often do not truly reflect an individual's subjective experience of air quality.
We have adopted a methodology that uses people themselves as the measurement tool, i.e. measuring air quality based on their subjective perceptions and allowing people to assess and predict air quality through betting. Through public participation in Air Betting, we challenge the objectivity of air quality measurements by comparing official AQI data with people's perceptions of air quality.
